Decatur, IL. – According to multiple news reports, 170,000 migrants are expected to flood the southern border, putting additional stress on our nation’s border patrol agents, and heightening the risk of human trafficking of women and children.
The Fox Illinois article notes that a repeal of Title 42, a public health order implemented to reduce the spread of COVID-19 that removed migrants in the U.S.-Mexico border from the country, would “generate a mass migration event.”
This comes at a time when violent crime in our local communities continues to rise. The Decatur area saw an increased violent crime rate in 2020 that outpaced the national crime rate. In Champaign, 2021 crime statistics show a sixty percent increase in homicide victims by gunfire and a nineteen percent increase in property damage.
“As a former federal criminal prosecutor, I understand the vital role law enforcement plays in combating crime in our communities and keeping our country secure,” said Jesse Reising, Congressional Candidate for Illinois’ 13th Congressional District. “The tough-on-crime Joe Biden of the 1990s is gone, and he’s no longer standing up for our brave men and women in uniform. If Biden wants to improve safety at our border and in our backyards, he can start by condemning the harmful rhetoric coming from Ilhan Omar, AOC, and other members of the Squad.”
