Decatur, IL. – Jesse Reising, congressional candidate for Illinois’ thirteenth congressional district, released the following statement about Russia’s invasion of Ukraine:

In 2012, Vice President Joe Biden laughed at Mitt Romney’s suggestion that Russia was an adversary of the United States, claiming Romney was stuck in the 1980s.

Russia went on to invade Crimea.

In 2020, then-presidential candidate Joe Biden said Putin doesn’t want Biden to be president because he’s “the only person in this field who’s ever gone toe-to-toe with him.”

Now, Russia is invading Ukraine, our sovereign ally. We can find peace only through strength. But Biden’s weakness has emboldened our adversaries.

The United States must shine as a beacon of light for nations living under authoritarian rule. My thoughts and prayers are with the people of Ukraine tonight in their enduring struggle to protect freedom against tyranny.
