Decatur, IL. – Jesse Reising, congressional candidate for Illinois’ thirteenth congressional district, released the following statement after a federal grand jury indicted former Illinois House Speaker Michael Madigan.
As a former federal criminal prosecutor who has put white-collar criminals behind bars, I have seen time and again how elite and influential people believe they can live above the law.
Madigan’s blatant disregard for the law and his oath of office has tarnished the meaning of public service in the eyes of all Illioisans. His actions have fostered a culture whereby Democratic Party insiders think they can rig the system against the will of the people.
Now that he has been indicted, we need to wipe our state clean of the stained legacy of the corrupt Madigan Machine. That starts with preventing the Madigan Machine’s hand-picked candidate from being elected in Illinois’ gerrymandered thirteenth congressional district.
I’m running to put the values of Central and Southern Illinois before the values of political insiders, and to restore trust that elected officials work for the people – not for their own self interest.
